AFTER two damaging defeats, Port Glasgow aim to get their season back on track tomorrow, when Forth Wanderers come to Parklea.

The misfiring side has failed to score in their last two outings, and has conceded seven goals in the process to Cambuslang Rangers and Rossvale.

The Port now sit in mid-table in the eleven-strong Central Second Division, but have a good chance of nudging up a place or two over the festive season.

No-one is being complacent, but with three of the next four games being against teams in the lower half of the league, it's an opportunity for the Parklea men to get back into the promotion mix.

For tomorrow, a repeat of the outcome when the Port travelled to Forth on the opening day of the league season would do nicely.

In late August a Jo-Jo Connolly penalty was enough to give them a hard-fought 1-0 victory, but it was a tight affair, with Forth also being awarded a spot-kick which was saved by then keeper Robbie Graham.

Neither Connolly nor Graham feature for the Port now, but the current squad must surely have enough ability to do the double over the Lanarkshire side.

But they must overcome the tendency for the away side to enjoy playing at Parklea more than they do.

The vast expanse of the artificial pitch is clearly to the liking of most visiting teams, with the Port frequently being caught out on the counter-attack.

It is a problem which manager Craig Brown identified some weeks ago, but finding the solution is problematic.

Brown said: ''Defensively, and I mean the whole team by this, we are far too open and need to be a lot tighter and more secure at home. The last two games have been very disappointing, especially last week against Cambuslang, when the performance was simply unacceptable.

''But we don't become a bad team overnight, and need to get back to how we were playing before those games. It's important to get a win tomorrow, but it was a hard game through at Forth and I don't expect it will be any different on Saturday.'' Eddie Walton remains sidelined, and he has been joined on the injured list by Mark Bowie, who will miss the next two or three games with a hamstring problem.

Kearn Docherty is rated doubtful for the same reason, but it's hoped that Brendan Grana will recover from a knee twist in time for a game which will mark the Port reaching the half-way stage of their league campaign.

Kick-off at Parklea is at 1.45pm.
