SCOTLAND star Ryan Sinnamon is targeting a new contract at Rangers after the national side narrowly missed out on a place at this summer’s Under-19 European Championship finals — despite an unbeaten record.

The 18-year-old Greenock defender has been an ever-present in the qualifying campaign but said he was ‘gutted’ to miss out in yesterday’s elite round 1-1 draw with Croatia through injury.

It meant the Scots finished their Euro qualifiers unbeaten in six matches — but it still wasn’t enough as the unlucky U19s lost out on a place at the Euro finals in Greece this summer. Elite round hosts Austria, who Scotland beat 2-1 in the opening match on Thursday, defeated Italy 2-1 to steal top spot in the group and a qualification place.

Sinnamon will now turn his attention back to club level as he bids to win a new contract and continue his rise through the Murray Park ranks. The promising right-back was recently promoted to the Ibrox first team squad and made the bench under new boss Stuart McCall before being called away on international duty.

But his current deal is set to expire in June and the youngster is keen to extend his stay at the club and continue his development.
