UNDER-PRESSURE Morton boss Kenny Shiels saw his side win at last tonight as they staved off relegation for another day.

Ton's stay of execution came courtesy of them downing Dumbarton 3-0 in front of a sparse crowd at Cappielow, ending a horrendous run of six straight defeats.

The victory came at the end of a dramatic day when chairman Douglas Rae had turned up the heat on manager Shiels and his poor record since taking charge in December.

In an exclusive and wide ranging interview with the Tele, the Ton boardroom boss he was 'extremely disappointed' with the way things have been going, admitted he had expected better and announced that the manager's future would be reviewed at the end of the season.

On the pitch, Shiels' players finally delivered the goods this evening as they eased to a comfortable three points.

They took the lead when Rowan Vine - back after a one game ban for his red card at Cowdenbeath last week - found space inside the box and headed home a David Robertson cross with 13 minutes gone.

Thomas O'Ware glanced home a second just seven minutes before the break from a Barrie McKay delivery, setting Ton up for just their fourth league win all season.

They sealed it early in the second period when man of the match McKay surged away from the Sons rearguard and calmly slipped the ball into the net with a low shot.

Vine could have made it 4-0 inside the last ten minutes but shot wide from a great position.

Morton's win means they merely delay the now inevitable drop to League One, with the gap at the foot of the table reduced to 14 points.
