Praised by boss: Scott Wilson, on left of picture, is one of three signings made at the start of the season who have pleased Port Glasgow manager Craig Brown.

IT IS a case of one in and one out as Port Glasgow gear up for the second half of the season.

Midfielder Kevin McKay has joined the club, stepping up from the juvenile ranks, where he played for Port Glasgow Under-21s.

Port boss Craig Brown said: "I am very pleased to have signed Kevin. He is a very talented player, in much the same mould as Paul Stanton, Jamie Brown and Scott Wilson, who all joined us at the start of the season and are doing really well."

Meanwhile, striker Andy Hannah has left the club. Hannah had returned to the Port in August for his second stint, but after a few starting appearances had found himself used more sparingly of late. His most recent appearance was as a late substitute in the Scottish Cup defeat at Clydebank last month.

Brown added: "Andy was looking for regular football and we could not guarantee him that, so he asked to move on. We wish him all the best for the future."

Last Saturday's expected debut of new signing Thomas Molloy from Largs Thistle was thwarted by the weather, and the prospects do not look much better for tomorrow, when the Port are scheduled to travel to Uddingston to face Thorniewood.

Ironically, the Lanarkshire club were also the opponents the last time the Port were in league action, with the Ravenscraig men emerging 5-3 winners after a highly entertaining game in mid-December.

Should the snow clear in time to give the match any chance of going ahead, Brown expects more of the same.

He said: "That was a close match, which could have gone either way, although I think we were the better side on the day. It is another of those games where three points would create some distance between us and our opponents, while a defeat would draw them up alongside us, so it is another of those vital fixtures."

Looking further ahead, the draw has been made for the first two rounds of the Central League Cup. Port Glasgow were given a bye into round two, where they will travel to face East Kilbride.

Kick-off at Robertson Park, Udddingston, is scheduled for 2pm. Port Glasgow Juniors are sponsored by 5 Star Plasterers, and WJ.
