THE wintry weather could be the opponent most likely to trouble Port Glasgow tomorrow.
The Port are due to travel to face Lesmahagow, whose neat Craighead Park nestles snugly in a valley within sight of the bustling M74 motorway.
But its sheltered location is not immune to night frosts, and with the gauge due to drop to just below zero again tonight, there are fears that the match may join the ever-growing list of postponements.
Although keen to get back into action, there may be some consolation for the Port if the game-off call comes. For they would be without striker Kevin Struthers, wisely sunning himself in Spain, and fellow front-man Scott Nugent, still suspended. Ged Hoey and new signing Kevin McKay are also both unavailable for work reasons.
But ample cover is available in Kevin's namesake Frankie, and in Jonathan Donnelly, whose late goal clinched a 3-2 win at Ravenscraig when the two teams last met.
Port boss Craig Brown said: "With a few players absent, we might need to re-think our shape if the game takes place, but we will stay positive, as it would be good to keep our recent good form going."
That form has seen Port Glasgow move well above the relegation drop zone, and with Lesmahagow struggling near the foot of the table, a win for the Port tomorrow would put them 10 points above the Lanarkshire side, a formidable gap to take into the second half of the season.
Kick-off at Craighead Park is at 2pm.
