Port Glasgow have options for cup clash
AFTER being idle for three weeks, Port Glasgow are hopeful of a return to action tomorrow.
The Port are scheduled to meet St Roch's in the second round of the West of Scotland Cup, and with the game being at Battery Park only a sudden blast of Arctic weather could put the match at risk.
The 'West', as the tournament is affectionately known, is second only in importance to the Scottish Cup itself, but tends to be staggered throughout the whole season.
It is fully two months since Port Glasgow made it through to this stage, having beaten Greenock 4-1 in a local derby in the first round back in October. Scott Nugent bagged a hat-trick that day, but work commitments will see the lethal striker miss out on tomorrow's match.
Port boss Craig Brown said: "There is no doubt we will miss having a player of Scott's ability, but on the plus side everyone else is fit and available, so I still have plenty of options up front."
It has been a long while since Brown had next to no injury worries amongst his squad, and the return to fitness of Eddie Joyce, Paul Stanton and Kevin Brown will hopefully see Port Glasgow regain the form which has deserted them in recent weeks after such a promising start to the season.
Brown added: "It will be great to have these players available again, as it was a blow when they were all out injured."
Against lower league opposition, the Port will start as favourites to make it through to the last 16 of the competition, but will face a St Roch's side determined to show why they are in the mix for one of the three promotion places out of the Central League Second Division.
l Kick-off at Battery Park is at 1.45pm, with the tie going straight to penalties if level after 90 minutes.
Port Glasgow Juniors are sponsored by Regents Vehicle Sales, Greenock, and WJ.
