GREEN FOR GO: Local stars Mark Monk, Kenny MacKay, John Carter and Thomas Jamieson were the shining lights at the Greenock ceremony.

THE new season in the Juniors may be just a few weeks away, but the players of Port Glasgow and Greenock recently held their awards presentation nights to mark their efforts in last season's campaign.

Port Glasgow's event was held at the Upper Port Glasgow Social Club.

Keeper Bryan Tucker was a double award winner after an outstanding season. He was named Committee Player of the Year and was also given the accolade by his fellow players.

Midfielder Barry Docherty was named overall Player of the Year, while prolific striker Scott Nugent was top goalscorer after another excellent season in which he netted 37 times.

Meanwhile, Greenock's presentation night was held at the Cruden Hall.

And it was another good night for the goalkeeping fraternity, with Mark Monk named Players' Player of the Year.

Other awards went to Kenny McKay (Club Player of the Year and Top Goalscorer with 18 goals) while John Carter and Thomas Jamieson were given Sponsors Special Awards.

Both sides are already back in training for the new season, which after some friendlies will begin in earnest with the Sectional League Cup.

Greenock's opening match is on Monday 6 August against Renfrew, with the Port's first game two days later on Wednesday 8, against Johnstone Burgh.

A full preview of the new season will be in the Tele in the days leading up to the new campaign.
