PORT Glasgow hope this week’s return of the wet weather won’t derail their recent good run of form.

Yesterday’s heavy rain in particular has raised renewed fears that we may not quite have seen the last of the postponed matches for this season.

And after a run of back-to-back away fixtures in the league, Port boss Craig Brown is bemused that his side have been sent back on the road again tomorrow for a third consecutive time.

He said: “We have two home and two away fixtures left to play, so I would have expected us to have been given one of the remaining home matches tomorrow.

“At Parklea, that would at least have ensured the game would not be in any doubt. But instead we are at East Kilbride, where the park is not that great at the best of times.” Brown’s apprehension is understandable, given that there have already been two attempts to play this match, first in early December and again in mid-January.

And East Kilbride’s Show Park has now failed pitch inspections no fewer than TEN times so far this season.

So it’s fingers crossed for dry weather on Friday to counteract the downpours of the day before. Certainly, the Port will be very keen for the match to go on, given their excellent performance last Saturday in a 6-0 demolition of St Roch’s.

And having netted four at Royal Albert three weeks ago, and twice against Johnstone Burgh, albeit on the way to a 4-2 defeat, the Port have suddenly found their goal touch, with a tally of 12 in their last three games.

Tomorrow’s adversaries, East Kilbride, are rooted to the foot of the Second Division, with one solitary point from 13 matches played.

But after a change of manager a few months ago, they no longer appear to be the league’s whipping boys.

Indeed, just last week they were, by all accounts, desperately unlucky against promotion favourites Vale of Clyde, who needed a 92nd minute goal to snatch the points in a 2-1 victory.

So it would appear that they might just register that first win before the end of the season, though obviously Port Glasgow hope it won’t be tomorrow. Brown added: “I hear that their new manager has now brought in a few experienced players, including a couple from his previous club, Cambuslang Rangers.

“But if we play to our recent form, I am confident we can make it three league wins in a row.’’ Brown will be forced to make at least one change tomorrow.

Paul Gordon, who bagged a hat-trick last week, is ruled out through work commitments.

Gordon, who normally plays as an overlapping right-back, was thrust into the forward line last week, a move partly brought on by Graham Black being out with tonsillitis.

But Black looks to have recovered and could resume his place in attack. More goals from the striker would be a welcome boost, as the Port try to end their season on a positive note by pushing for the points needed to end the campaign in as high a league position as possible.

Kick-off at Show Park, East Kilbride, is at 2pm.
