PORT Glasgow play their second last home game of the season tomorrow, when Blantyre Vics are the visitors at Parklea.

Craig Brown’s men will be glad to have a fixture that is not in any doubt, after the disappointment of last Saturday’s call-off at East Kilbride.

They could hardly have it any tougher, though.

Since the early stages of the season, Blantyre have laid a marker as one of the favourites to clinch a spot in the top three, and promotion to the Central First Division.

They currently lie in fourth place, but with eight fixtures still to play they have a barrowload of games in hand over the sides above them.

And they showed their quality when the Port travelled to Castle Park in Blantyre last August and were comprehensively beaten 3-0, although a young Port side that day held their experienced opponents until the 35th minute before conceding the opening goal.

Port boss Brown admitted: “We were poor that day, but we have been playing well lately, so it should be a good game tomorrow. I think the league title will be between Blantyre and Vale of Clyde, so the Vics will certainly be a big challenge.” It may be a closer affair tomorrow than last time, with the Port having played well in their recent matches. However they will be without influential skipper Paul Coyle, who is unavailable due to a family celebration.

Paul Gordon, pictured, must be one of the contenders for the skipper’s armband on Saturday. The versatile defender and forward has been in sparkling form lately, and is generally missed on those Saturdays when his job rules him out of playing.

Other than Coyle, though, there are no other absentees or injury worries, as the Port aim to use their remaining four games to end the season on as much a high as they started it, when they took nine points out of 10 to win their Sectional League Cup group.

Kick-off at Parklea is at 2pm.

Port Glasgow Juniors are sponsored by Regents Vehicle Sales, Greenock, and WJ.
