PORT Glasgow’s first ‘home’ game of the season tonight will be played 15 miles away, as the ongoing wrangle with Inverclyde Council shows no sign of being settled.

The Port have conceded home advantage to Johnstone Burgh, and this evening’s Sectional League Cup match will now be played at Keanie Park.

And the Telegraph can reveal that Saturday’s local derby against Greenock will also be played at the Johnstone ground.

That’s despite the council confirming that they would not have stood in the way of the game being switched to Ravenscraig, although the local authority had stressed that that would only be ‘acceptable as a one-off arrangement’.

It’s thought Greenock would also have been amenable to the switch, but the Port have now opted to play the match at Johnstone. However the news should not have too much of an effect on Port Glasgow’s chances of topping the group, which they currently lead on goal difference over Renfrew.

Craig Brown’s men have taken four points from their two games on the road so far, including an earlier visit to Keanie Park, pictured, 10 days ago, when they held Renfrew to a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, Greenock are also in with a chance of winning the section after their convincing 3-0 defeat of Renfrew on Saturday.

The Ravenscraig men head over the water to face Vale of Leven tonight.

But in a tremendously tight section, the Vale also have group-topping aspirations of their own, with both they and Greenock on three points.

The outcome of the group won’t be decided tonight, irrespective of the outcomes, but the results will go a long way to determining who goes into Saturday’s final round of matches with everything to play for.

Both of this evening’s matches kick-off at 6.45pm.
