CHRIS Doak had contrasting fortunes to his opening round of the Scottish Open last year after he shot a disappointing round of 75 — including a TRIPLE bogey.

The Greenock golfer finished four-over par after the first 18 holes at Royal Aberdeen yesterday.

Doak, 36, teed off just after 11am and was back in the clubhouse shortly before 4.30pm.

And he didn’t get off to the best of starts after a bogey on the fourth hole then a nightmare triple-bogey on the fifth, which left him well adrift of the top of the leaderboard. It was in stark contrast to 12 months ago when Doak shot a sizzling 66 in the opener at Castle Stuart to secure top spot after day one. Northern Irish ace Rory McIlroy ended the day on a superb seven-under — topping the scoreboard and breaking the course record with a round of 64.

Reigning champion Phil Mickelson is in contention on three-under. Greenock man Doak now faces a battle to make the cut as he prepares for round two.

He is last off the tee later today at around 3.40pm in the same group a Englishman Eddie Peppernell, who posted the same score, and amateur Alexander Culverwell, who is one adrift on five-over.
