EARLIER this month the Waterfront Leisure Centre held their first skate camp called ‘Strive for Success’.

The camp was aimed at skaters near completion of the learn to skate programme and competitive skaters.

Coaches Kayleigh Munro and Nicola Milne worked with just under 20 participants, ranging from ages of eight to 16-years-old.

Skaters were put through their paces over three intensive days, taking part in various classes on ice, in the dance studio and lectures in the conference room.

Organisers also teamed up with specialised instructors from the Waterfront fitness gym and participants got the opportunity to try yoga and pilates and movement to music.

On the last day during presentations skaters showcased their group dance to friends and family and received a participation certificate for their attendance at the camp.

The Waterfront’s ice skating co-ordinator, Kayleigh Munro said: “The skate camp was a huge success. “It was the first of its kind to run at the Waterfront and it’s definitely something that we will be organising again in the future.

“It was great to see skaters that once started as beginners in our learn to skate programme come through the levels and qualify to apply and take part in the camp.” Nicola Milne, camp instructor, also worked with the children and delivered some of the classes.

Nicola said: “We couldn’t have worked with a better group of skaters.

“Skaters displayed 100 per cent commitment and remained enthusiastic over a tough but fun few days. Everyone left more knowledgeable in the sport of ice skating and gained a higher skill level on ice.” Why not try ice skating yourself?

Learn to skate classes run at the Waterfront for all ages and abilities.
