MORTON youngster Scott Tiffoney says he’s delighted to be back at Cappielow after his loan spell at Clyde — and he reckons he’s returned as a more experienced player.

Tiffoney joined the Bully Wee back in November on an emergency loan, and the youngster made three starts and three sub appearances during his short stint at Broadwood.

Even though he was only there for a brief spell, Tiffoney insists he learned a lot from boss Barry Ferguson about the ‘other side of the game’.

Speaking exclusively to the Tele, Tiffoney said: “I’m very happy to be back. It was a good learning curve for me at Clyde and it was nice to get some game time under my belt as well.

“It helped me massively. I’ve changed a lot even in that short space of time and I’ve trained hard to learn the different side to the game.

“It was a lot different from under-20s football and it was even a bit different from first team football at Morton. It was just a different experience altogether.”

Asked what he learned from Ferguson, he replied: “I learned a lot about how he expected the best from every player. And I learned quickly that if you weren’t at your best, it wasn’t good enough. He had a lot of risk element on you and he wanted the best out of you.

“I think that was a good and bad part of it. You need that part of it, but sometimes it can be taken too far.

“But [in this instance] it was good because it helped get a lot out of you by expecting things.”

Tiffoney insists he thoroughly enjoyed his time as a Clyde player, and that the experience of playing competitive football in a lower league in Scotland was a positive one.

However, he was always looking to return with the mindset of breaking into manager Jim Duffy’s first team plans.

But the 18-year-old acknowledges how difficult the task ahead of him will be — especially considering the form Ton are currently in.

He said: “It gets the mindset stronger and helped my development as a player, I think.

“It’s helped me a lot as a player and I think it was the right decision in the end, going out on loan. I feel a lot better for it.

“The [Morton] team are absolutely flying at the minute, and it’s going to be really hard to get into it.

“I think they’ve only lost one game in a good length of time.

“But I was happy with the amount of time I spent at Clyde.

“I always wanted to do well and come back here so I could try and push my way into the team here.”
