JIM Duffy reckons his Morton players are enjoying their football at the moment — which he says has been key to their current run of form.

Ton are unbeaten in seven, a run stretching back to early December when two defensive errors were to blame for a 2-1 defeat to Dunfermline Athletic at East End Park.

Duffy’s men are riding high in the Ladbrokes Championship, sitting third just three points behind Dundee United with a game in hand.

And the Ton boss insists it’s important that his players continue to play with freedom and confidence, because it shows in their results.

Ross Forbes and Gary Oliver in particular have impressed, and both bagged doubles in last weekend’s impressive 4-1 win over Ayr United at Somerset.

But Duffy believes all his players deserve credit for their recent form because two players can’t win you games on their own.

He told the Tele: “The players are enjoying their football at the moment and that’s vital because when you’re enjoying your football you play a little bit more relaxed than if you’re not.

"If you get that balance right you can express yourself on the pitch.

“To be fair, the two boys that were highlighted last week [Forbes and Oliver] are playing very well.

“But in general I think most of the guys are playing at a good level, and that’s the only way you’ll get results.

“If it’s only one or two players playing well, you’re not going to get those results.

“You need eight or nine players to be at it every week, and if on occasion you get all 11, then great.

“But you need the vast majority to be up for the challenge and the competitiveness required, and by-in-large we’ve had that this season and we want to just keep that going.”

Queen of the South welcome Ton to Palmerston Park tomorrow afternoon, and Duffy believes Gary Naysmith’s Doonhamers are in better shape now than they were the last time the two sides squared off.

But the Cappielow gaffer isn’t sure exactly what kind of game to expect this weekend, because there are different factors that could potentially have a bearing on proceedings.

He said: “I think over recent weeks Queen of the South have definitely improved. They were a bit unfortunate last week to lose 1-0 to Hibernian.

“But over the piece in the last few weeks they’ve definitely picked up and had some positive results and performances. I think they’re back on track again.

“They’ve brought a number of new players in and they’re starting to make their mark. It will be another game with different challenges because it’s a different group of players from the last time we played.

“It’s impossible to say what kind of game we can expect. The likes of last week and it was as competitive as it usually is, the conditions played a part. Down there [Dumfries] it’s the artificial surface so it depends if it’s pouring of rain or if it’s dry.

“If it’s dry the pitch will be a bit sticky, if it’s raining the pitch will be slick.

“So the conditions can definitely play a part. But we won’t know that until we get there.

“We will go down there prepared for all eventualities as we did last week, we’ll roll our sleeves up and compete and see if that’s good enough on the day to come back with the points.”
