MORTON have moved quickly to reinforce their injury-hit attack with a loan swoop for Celtic youngster Luke Donnelly.

Manager Jim Duffy hopes to have the 21-year-old striker available for tonight’s away clash with Raith Rovers if his registration can be completed in time.

He will be at Cappielow until the end of the season and should also be available for Sunday's Scottish Cup tie with Rangers.

Donnelly – who has been out on loan at Alloa this season and also enjoyed a previous temporary stint with East Stirling – trained at Parklea yesterday.

The move will see him reunited with Parkhead pals Jamie Lindsay and Aidan Nesbitt, who have been farmed out to the Greenock men this season.

Duffy first attempted to sign Donnelly back in the summer of 2015 but the loan switch was held up and never went through.

The Ton boss revived his interest in the frontman at the weekend after he saw key man Gary Oliver crocked during Saturday’s defeat to Queen of the South.

Oliver sustained a potentially-serious knee injury as the Greenock men went down 3-0 at Palmerston Park and left the stadium on crutches.

He’s due to have a scan this week to determine the extent of the damage but early indications suggest he could be out of action for several weeks at least.

The injury leaves Ton threadbare in attack, with Jai Quitongo and Kudus Oyenuga already sidelined and Lawrence Shankland cup-tied for Sunday’s clash against Rangers at Ibrox.

If the necessary paperwork can be finalised in time then it’s hoped Donnelly will be in the squad which travels to Kirkcaldy for tonight’s rearranged Championship clash.
