DUNDEE United boss Ray McKinnon insists he was pleased with his side’s performance against Morton on Saturday — even if he was, by the same token, frustrated that they couldn’t nick all three points at Tannadice.

United and Morton played out a 1-1 draw in Dundee at the weekend and McKinnon believes his side did enough to walk away with the victory.

But the 46-year-old admits their performance in the first half was lacklustre and he was relieved to see his team raise their game in the second half.

He said: “We’re disappointed we didn’t take the three points, but we weren’t great in the first half. It wasn’t a great game.

“We really should have been going in [at half-time] at 0-0 in a game like that, and to lose a goal from a set-piece is disappointing.

“We spoke to the guys at half-time to up their game, they did that and had good chances to score goals. So I’m going to give them a bit of credit there.

“We got the result that we needed. So I’m disappointed — but a wee bit happy.”

Asked if he was content to see his side remain in second place in the Ladbrokes Championship after the weekend, he said: “I never even thought about that to be honest with you, we just wanted to win the game. All we want to do is win games, that’s the criteria.

“I just felt for a certain reason we put ourselves in a position in the first-half not to win the game because people weren’t doing what I wanted them to do.

“We were better in the second half, we got forward and had some two-vs-ones, so we’ve got to give them a bit of credit for that second half performance and salvaging a point.”
