ANDY Murdoch believes Morton have completed a huge piece of business by tying Jai Quitongo to the club for at least another year.

The midfielder insists it is a statement of intent from the Greenock outfit, that they are a club on the rise and have the ability to hold onto their best players.

And he reckons his team-mate was unlucky to pick up a knee injury when he did back in December — because he was doing well up until that point.

Quitongo established himself as a first team regular at the start of the campaign, bagging six goals and attracting some admiring glances from English clubs.

Murdoch told the Tele: “Jai was very unlucky with his injury because he was doing really well. He was great up until then.

“So it’s great for the team that he’s signed again for another year. If he can get back fit and going again, that would be really good for everyone.”

Fans’ favourite Murdoch says he hasn’t yet given much thought to his own contract situation and will consider his options nearer the time as Ton gear up for the battle for a play-off spot.

He said: “I’ve not really thought about my own contract at the minute to be honest.

“I just want to hopefully keep playing for the time being and we’ll see what happens as it comes towards nearer the time, whenever that is.”
