JIM Duffy has hailed birthday boy Kudus Oyenuga for his winning contribution on Saturday, as Morton defeated Falkirk 1-0 away from home.

Oyenuga came off the bench to net the winner on 79 minutes to take Ton joint second with the Bairns with two games in hand.

And Duffy says the 24-year-old striker enjoyed the ‘ideal day’ after bagging his third of the season.

He said: “Kudus was injured for a spell so you’re always pleased when injured players come back in and make a positive contribution, he certainly did that. And it was his birthday as well so it was the ideal day for him.

“We’ve got options in that area [up front] and have good players who compete for places, we’ve got a healthy squad.

“Those options gave us a little bit more impetus in the latter stages of the match, and he could’ve scored another one with the keeper making a good save.

“Falkirk is a notoriously difficult place to come against a very good, organised side who are consistent. In the first half we weren’t at our best, but we knuckled down and were organised.

“Gats [Derek Gaston] had a magnificent save just before half-time and I think that gave us a wake-up call to improve in the second half, and we certainly did that.”

Ton’s trip to Falkirk was broadcast live in front of the BBC Alba cameras on Saturday evening — the second fixture in a row that has seen the Cappielow men televised after last weekend’s 1-0 win over Queen of the South.

Duffy said: “It’s two 1-0 wins for us [in front of the BBC Alba cameras] and I think slightly contrasting performances.

“Last week we played very well but today was about being organised and disciplined, and it was about negating Falkirk’s strengths.

“We changed the system slightly and by-in-large it worked. If we had come away with a point we would’ve been delighted, but to get the three is a bonus.”

Duffy refused to look too far ahead in the Ladbrokes Championship, despite his side sitting just seven points behind league leaders Hibernian with a game in hand over the Easter Road side.

And even with two fixtures to come against the Hibees, Duffy insists he won’t think any further than Dunfermline at Cappielow next weekend.

He said: “Any kind of gap you get at all in this division is welcome, but you can only really concentrate on your own performance. If something else happens further down the line, great.

"But if you come to places like Falkirk and start looking over your shoulder at somewhere else, you lose concentration.

“We’re happy to be at the top end of the league. We’re happy at this moment in time, and we’ll look forward to the challenge ahead.

“We’ve got Dunfermline next week so we’ll concentrate on them. Hibs will take care of themselves when those games come along. Dunfermline at home next weekend, if you look beyond that you’ll fall flat on your face.

“Hopefully it’ll be another positive result and performance and we’ll move on from there.”
