DEREK Gaston reckons there won’t be any extra animosity when Morton face Hibs at Cappielow on Saturday.

There were ugly scenes last week when the two sides met at Easter Road, as Morton’s Kudus Oyenuga and Hibs captain Darren McGregor were both sent off in the dying seconds of the game.

Jim Duffy and Neil Lennon were also both sent to the stands following a bust-up before the final whistle, but Gats believes all the hype and bad blood that followed will be put to one side as both teams will simply be on the hunt for the three points at Cappielow this weekend.

He told the Tele: “It was obviously a disappointing result on Saturday [a 1-0 loss to Dumbarton], but we’ve now got an opportunity to put that right with the game at the weekend.

“I don’t know if there will be an extra edge to the game.

“I think the media have built it up a bit, but that’s what happens, they’re always going to be looking for headlines and we understand that.

“We have to concentrate on what happens on the pitch. I don’t think there will be any extra needle between the players, though.

“Kudus was sent off for a late tackle last Wednesday but I don’t think anyone will be going out there looking to make it a nasty game or anything like that. It’ll just be another match that we’ll be hoping for a positive result from.”

The Ton stopper acknowledges that most of the talk after Hibs last week was surrounding the confrontation between Duffy and Lennon, but he insists the Greenock men were pleased enough with the recognition they received for a solid display.

He said: “The back pages were mostly about the managers and what happened at the end of the game but I did hear us still get some recognition for what was a good point.

“We still got a wee bit of praise which was good, I think we’re one of, if not the only team this season to go to Easter Road and come away with a clean sheet, so that was a positive for us, too.

“They’ve hit the post in the first minute but besides that I don’t think there was too much in the game.”

With Ton dropping points at Dumbarton on Saturday, they slipped back into third place in the Ladbrokes Championship after Falkirk won their weekend fixture.

But Gaston insists there are still a few ‘twists and turns’ ahead as the end of the season approaches.

He added: “I know it’s something that managers like to say but it’s true that we can only really take it one game at a time.

"All the teams up at the top of the table are still going to drop points here and there, I think there will still be a few twists and turns towards the end of the season.”
