MICHAEL Doyle believes now is the time for Morton’s fringe players to make a name for themselves — and prove they too can stand up and be counted as the play-offs loom closer.

Doyle admits that Ton don’t have the strength and depth other sides in the Ladbrokes Championship can boast but he is adamant team morale is every bit as important.

He told the Tele: “What a time for everyone in the team to show in the final games that you can stand up to these big games before the play-offs and be trusted.

“If you look at every team in the league, we don’t really have huge resources. But what we do have is brilliant team spirit.

“The manager mentioned a few weeks ago that throughout the whole season there’s been a few injuries we’ve had that looked like we couldn’t replace them.

“But the manager has swapped people about, Jamie McDonagh has played striker and right-back, I’ve played right and left-back, Thomas O’Ware has played centre-mid, centre-back.

“So many people have played out of position and we’ve still managed to gain the result.

“So the next games we’ll try to show them what we’ve got.” Morton first-team stars Derek Gaston, Ricki Lamie and captain Lee Kilday helped launch their brand new red tartan away kit yesterday afternoon at Smiths.

Doyle is pleased with the winning design by Peter Fleming and said: “When we went down to try the new top on, I don’t know if they were expecting someone bigger than myself and Gary Oliver.

“I think the only person who is a lot bigger is probably Ricki Lamie. They gave me an extra large, and in the photo they took last week you’ll see me holding it at the back to try and show it off as best I could.

“But it’ll be good for the fans to get something different, I doubt the home top will ever change much but it’s nice to have a change.

“I think it’s good for the kids as well to get different shirts. I remember myself as a young lad I always had different colours of football tops of different teams so I think that’ll be good too. And hopefully it’ll be a lucky top.”
