KUDUS Oyenuga has thanked Morton fans for sticking by him after his red card against Hibs at Easter Road — and he hopes to reward them by finishing the Championship campaign with a strong display against Dundee United this afternoon.

Oyenuga was sent off during the goalless draw in Edinburgh that led to chaotic scenes between both benches and sets of players in the aftermath.

The striker was disappointed to be given his marching orders after hitting a good run of form which saw him score a vital late winner against Falkirk on March 18.

But he’s hopeful he can add something different up top if given the opportunity in Ton’s final league game against Ray McKinnon’s men today — and in next week’s Premiership play-offs.

He told the Tele: “The fan support has been great this season. They sing loud every single game and that helps the team. Even when sometimes we don’t perform, to have the support of the fans is amazing. After the Hibs game when I got sent off I thought that I’d just got myself a bit of form and I’d started playing well.

"Then when I got myself sent off I was gutted. But the fans rallied and have been great, and hopefully we can take the same support into the play-off games.

“I’m always ready to play whenever I’m called upon. During the season I’ve had a few injuries but I’ve come back and started a few games.

“But we’ll see if I’m called upon on Saturday and if I am, I’ll give my all again and hopefully I can contribute to the team.”

Oyenuga insists it doesn’t matter who Morton draw in the play-offs — whether it be Dundee United or Falkirk — because the Greenock men have nothing to fear against anyone.

Ton have not lost to the Bairns all season whilst they have put in some strong performances against the Tangerines as well, winning once, drawing twice and suffering one defeat.

The 23-year-old says now is the perfect time to end their streak without a win — to gain some momentum going into the biggest games of their season.

He added: “We’re really looking forward to this weekend and the beginning of the play-offs now. We’re well prepared even though we don’t know who it is we’ve got quite yet, so we’ll need to wait and see. But I’m sure all the boys and supporters are all excited to get it started.

“We go into every game trying to get a result regardless of who it is we’re playing and I think the boys can do it again this weekend to finish the season on a high and take some momentum going into the play-offs.

“When it comes to the play-offs they’ll probably be a bit cagey and neither team will really want to open up but the gaffer always tells us to give it our absolute best shot. We’ve got nothing to be scared of, we’re a good team, so we’ve got to take hope into the next games and hopefully we can take a wee bit of form into Tuesday from this weekend.”
