MORTON back-up keeper Bryn Halliwell is unlikely to make the bench for tonight’s Premiership play-off first-leg against Dundee United after suffering a thigh strain on Saturday.

In what is his second spell at Cappielow, the veteran featured for the first time this campaign against Ray McKinnon’s men after re-signing on a deal from Gartcairn Juniors at the beginning of April as emergency cover for Ton number one Derek Gaston.

However, the 36-year-old was crocked and had to be replaced by Jamie McGowan in the 70th minute and he admits he isn’t sure if he’ll be available for selection for this evening’s crucial tie.

He told the Tele: “I pulled my thigh in the first half, it would’ve been okay if I was just kicking with my left foot but I pass with my right and it was just a bit too sore.

“I think everyone thought the injury came when I made the save with my chest but it was my thigh and it’s better to get off and get it all sorted.

“Jamie came on in the second half and did absolutely fantastically so it’s all credit to him. I’ve tried to keep myself in really good shape but these things happen. I was feeling okay in the first half and then in the second I passed the ball with my right foot and it was a little bit too sore.

“I haven’t had an injury for a long time so we’ll see, I don’t know if it will rule me out for tonight’s game.”

However, Ross Forbes, who was substituted with a back problem against United on Saturday, should be fit to return to action.
