THOMAS O’Ware believes the only way is up for Morton and that his side can continue their progression next season.

Ton have consistently improved under boss Jim Duffy — winning the League One title in 2014-15 before finishing fifth in the Championship the following year and fourth the season after that.

And O’Ware reckons they can improve again.

He told the Tele: “The aim will be the same next year, to try and get back into the play-offs again.

“Obviously there are a few players away now so we’ll need to try and get a squad built up again and get the mentality right, the team spirit back and see where it takes us.

“It’s that time of season again where you know these things [released players] are unfortunately coming, especially for Peps [Conor Pepper] and Scully [Jon Scullion] who have both been here since the gaffer first came in.

“We’ve got a great friendship, we’re all great pals and it’s never nice to see them go.

“Jamie [Lindsay] and Aidan [Nesbitt] have been especially brilliant this season and it’s all about how they go back to their parent club and try to push on now.

“The loans have done well here.

“But for us we’ve got to remember that the gaffer will have his eye on other targets now and we need to focus on that.”

Morton are to face Highland League club Turriff United in a pre-season friendly at The Haughs on Saturday July 8 with a 3pm kick-off. Admission details for the friendly clash will be announced in due course.
