RUARIDH Langan says he’s already learned a lot from working with the Morton first-team this pre-season — singling out Gary Harkins and Darren Barr for special thanks.

The 19-year-old signed a six-month extension on his contract at Cappielow in May and has been training with the senior squad during their pre-season warm-up.

The development squad captain is enjoying learning from the senior pros at the club, including Harkins and Barr who both bring vast experience to the side.

He told the Tele: “I’ve enjoyed pre-season training so far, it’s been tough continuing to build fitness up and what not but it’s not been as bad as I was maybe expecting.

“Gary Harkins has been good with me. He’s got a lot of good experience. And Darren Barr as well has been helpful to me, very helpful.

"I’ve played with him at centre-back in bounce games and he’s been really helpful so it’s good to learn from these guys. Then training with him with the 20s as well has been great.”

Langan’s first experience of a Jim Duffy-led pre-season has been an enjoyable one, even if he does admit that the first few days of running were difficult to deal with.

But he’s happy to put in the work if it means he’ll get his chance to show what he can do on the pitch — starting with Stenhousemuir today at Ochilview Park.

He said: “Last year the 20s were away in Bulgaria for pre-season, so this is my first time working with the gaffer in pre-season. It’s been tough but bearable and you can deal with it.

“The difficult part is over now I think and to be fair, the first three days were the hardest because you’re just back from holiday and you’re getting everything out of your system.

“I played 20 minutes against Partick and 25 or so against Airdrie.

"It’s been good to play games early on and hopefully I can keep my head down and make sure I stand out. Hopefully I can get another run out against Stenny on Saturday.”
