MORTON’S Ricki Lamie is scheduled to go for a scan on his Achilles tendon this afternoon — and the defender is hoping for good news.

The 24-year-old is suffering the effects of a seemingly innocuous challenge he was on the receiving end of against Queen’s Park in last week’s 2-2 draw in the Betfred Cup.

He missed Saturday’s defeat to Motherwell and hasn’t been able to train properly since, but Lamie remains positive ahead of the scan.

The ex-Airdrie stopper insists he has played through the pain barrier before and says he would have no problem doing so again to help his team.

But he won’t put himself under any unnecessary pressure to do so this time.

Having injured himself at the beginning of last season, Lamie rushed back to full fitness as soon as possible, only to end up back on the treatment table after the recurrence of his injury.

He says he won’t make the same mistake again this time — instead choosing to rehab and rest his body fully before any return.

He exclusively told the Tele: “We know what’s wrong with my Achilles, but in terms of the extent, it’s still a grey area.

“We know what’s up but there’s an uncertainty about how long I’ll be out.

“I went for a scan last week and the swelling has went down again a wee bit.

“I’ve got a scan today to see if any damage can be identified this time round.

“It’s gradually getting better so hopefully I won’t be sidelined too much longer.

“At first I thought I’d rocked my ankle but it’s up the back of my foot, on the back of my ankle. It’s not my ankle as such but the Achilles tendon, up the back of it.

“It happened just during a coming together in the Queen’s Park game, it was nothing really.

“It wasn’t until I stopped, took my boot off and then it swelled up.

“If there isn’t anything majorly wrong, no tear or anything, it won’t necessarily need mending, it’ll just be a case of managing it as I’ve been doing for the last week.

“It’s a really awkward place to have bruising and swelling because as soon as you put a shoe or a football boot on there’s discomfort.

“I’ve played through stuff before, it’s part and parcel of football so I have no issue doing that again, but it’s about being careful in case there is any damage that I’m not making anything worse.

“That’s the grey area, I just want to get the second scan to make sure there’s not any real damage done and then it’ll be a matter of getting back as soon as possible.”
