JIM Duffy insists he was pleased with his side’s reaction to a tactical tweak during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Ton were 1-0 down having looked unlikely to cause their hosts any real defensive problems throughout the first 45.

But the boss made offensive changes and the visitors reaped the rewards by walking away with a point — and it could even have been all three.

Duffy said: “It was the old cliché — a game of two halves.

“It took 25 minutes before we even got a couple of passes going. We were hanging on in there at times.

“We changed the shape a wee bit at half-time and, in the second half, I felt we were in control of the game.

“It’s a very good point for us up here. We didn’t adapt to Inverness’s shape in the first half and they controlled the game by putting us under a lot of pressure.

“I was actually pleased going in at half-time with the score still at 1-0.

“But we started the second half on the front foot and controlled the majority of the second half. If you finish strongly you’re always going to be a bit frustrated not to win but on the balance of the game I think a draw was probably a fair result.”

Robert Thomson was the man who got his name on the scoresheet for Morton at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium and Duffy admits he was delighted to see the 24-year-old find the net.

Thomson was one of the forward players at the heart of the tactical shift, moving from a left-midfield berth to playing the striker’s role and then back again.

And his manager explained his reasoning for switching the 24-year-old, admitting that the goal will do him the world of good this campaign.

He added: “I’m delighted for Thommo, he put in a shift.

“We started him wide but eventually moved him centre because we couldn’t get hold of the ball with the wind, then we moved him back out again.

“He’s a terrific lad, I’m pleased for him and a goal always helps boost the confidence.”
