MORTON kid Connor McManus feels that playing as a makeshift defender in his time at Cappielow has helped him gain manager Jim Duffy’s trust.

McManus explained to the Tele how he knew what he was in for when he joined up with the Ton, but his adaptability has shown his gaffer that he can be trusted to play any position.

He said: “It’s been really enjoyable. Obviously at the start everything was a bit hectic having been in a day and then playing away to Motherwell.

And playing at centre- back, which was a position I wasn’t really familiar with at the time.

“It shows that there’s been a lot of football been played even so far and I’ve really been enjoying it.

“I was flung into the deep end a wee bit at centre-half and the manager even said that to me at the time. But now, I feel like if I were to go back there again I’d be more confident playing there.

“Then against St Mirren I came off the bench to play at right-back.

“Again that was a bit alien to me but it was about gaining experience and the manager’s trust — and that can only be good going forward.”
