MICHAEL Doyle says Morton want to hold onto their unbeaten start to the new Championship campaign with a victory over Livingston this afternoon.

Ton began the new season with a goalless draw away to Dumbarton before a thumping 4-1 win over Renfrewshire rivals St Mirren

Last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Inverness made it three without defeat and Doyle hopes to keep the good times going against David Hopkin’s men.

He told the Tele: “You don’t get the league title given out after three games but we’re pleased with the start in the league.

“If you look at the three games we’ve actually played, it’s a win in a home derby and two difficult trips to Dumbarton and Inverness where we’ve got two draws.

“They’ll be two difficult places for anyone to go this season.

“To be undefeated including two very difficult venues, I think in the long-term that’ll do us well.”

Doyle started the 2-0 defeat to Livingston in the Irn-Bru Cup a fortnight ago but he’s hopeful that he and his team-mates can improve to silence the visiting supporters this time
round.

Morton threw the kitchen sink at Livi in the final 20 minutes of that game at Cappielow but missed a penalty through Michael Tidser and were unable to convert any of their opportunities on an evening to forget.

But the 26-year-old defender believes his side can triumph if they can put their chances away this time.

He reckons both Hopkin and Jim Duffy are still finding their favourite starting 11 — which is sure to make it an entertaining fixture once again.

He said: “We made a couple of changes to our team last time and we know what we’re going to get this time round.

“We’ll go in there professionally and we want to stay unbeaten in the league, so we’ll be going in to win.

“The manager has had them watched so we didn’t go in there unprepared.

“If you look at the last 20 minutes of the game as well we had a really good go at it.

“Even at 2-0 down we were doing all the attacking, so we can take a bit of confidence from that. If we take our chances this time, I think we’ll be fine.

“We had prepared for one Livingston team and they made six changes for the Irn-Bru Cup game.

“We made five changes as well so I don’t know how much of a difference there will be from the last game.

“At this stage in the season I don’t know if anyone knows their best starting 11. You can prepare as much as you want but at the end of the day you never know what’s going to happen and what teams are going to do until it happens.

“You can prepare a certain amount but when teams make so many changes from the Saturday, at this stage you’re still getting to know the teams you’re playing against.”
