MORTON boss Jim Duffy has refused to rule out deadline day transfer movement as the window prepares to shut at midnight tonight.

Ton have brought in a number of new faces this summer including the likes of Gary Harkins, Bob McHugh, Robert Thomson and Connor McManus.

Duffy revealed there could be at least one new face joining the ranks before the window closes for another four months.
Back in May, chief executive Warren Hawke told Telegraph

Sport that the club would increase the manager’s budget to help him bring in some new players and Duffy admits there is still scope in that budget to play about with.

But the gaffer insists that even if no more business is concluded in time, he would be happy with the players he has at his disposal.

He told the Tele: “We’re always looking around, but our situation will always be that we’re looking to always improve. And we have scope in the budget for doing that.

“But it’s about working within the parameters of that budget.

“We’re always looking to see if you can improve but it’s not necessarily because the deadline is coming up.

“If we do something, we do something and we might bring a player in — but if it comes to whatever time it is tonight and the window closes, it’s not something I’ll be crying about.

“There is always scope for emergency loans and things like that further down the line, so we’ll see what happens.

“I can’t say nothing is going to happen but I’m also not able to say that something is going to happen either.

“We’re just continuing to make enquiries about players and we’ve done that since we came back in for pre-season, really. We’ll wait and see.”

Duffy has had plenty of success in the loan market in previous seasons, most recently last season when he sealed the signatures of Jamie Lindsay and Aidan Nesbitt from Celtic

And former loan star Nesbitt has again been linked with the Greenock club after being pictured in attendance at the Dumbarton clash earlier this season.

But he made it clear that he’s not solely in the hunt for players on the loan list.

Last season’s Ladbrokes Championship Manager of the Year insists that if the right player became available in any capacity, the club would do all they can to bring that player to Cappielow.

He said: “It would just be about finding the right player who can contribute to the team, whether it’s on loan, permanent, someone in or out of contract.

“There’s no specific category. As long as it’s a good player, a decent guy who fits in with what we’re trying to do. It wouldn’t matter where they came from.

“It’s an open book when it comes to bringing players in. There can be a lot of different things that can make signing players a little more complicated than some of these other clubs with the resources at hand. Players coming from abroad or from England, there are different aspects with how you deal with that.

"Not just financially but some will look for apartments or accommodation of sorts and sometimes they’re looking for transport, flights and things like that.

“But that doesn’t stop you looking, we brought Alex Samuel from Swansea a couple of years ago and Jamie McDonagh last year who was at Sheffield United. We managed to sort something for Gavin Gunning as well last season.

“It’s not unique for us to do something like that but it’s not common because there’s a lot more work involved.

“But if the player is worth it, can contribute and improve the team then the club is more than happy to pull out the stops to try and get good players in.”
