MORTON midfielder Michael Tidser says he’s looking forward to a ‘free weekend’ as international fixtures take centre stage.

Ton are without a fixture tomorrow afternoon, but following on from last weekend’s disappointing 1-0 defeat by Livingston at Cappielow, Tidser reckons now is a good time to recharge the batteries.

The Greenock men have continued in training this week despite a quiet weekend ahead — which has been a staple part of manager Jim Duffy’s routine since he took over at the helm in 2014.

But while Tidser is pleased with the rare Saturday off, he admits he is also happy to have been in on the training pitch to keep things ticking over this week.

He told the Tele: “I think the international break has helped, personally.

“You can ask other boys and they’ll maybe tell you different or that they’d want another game.

“But I think just to clear our minds and get going again next week, hopefully that helps.

“I know what I’m like and after a defeat it can mull over in your head morning, noon and night.

“I know a lot of the boys are like that as well so for me, sometimes not having a game right away can be good.

“We’ve been working on things in the training ground and when you know you’ve not got a game and have a few weeks to prepare for the next game it can also help.

“We work hard in training so I’m sure we’ll be able to turn the corner and play the way we know we can play.”

He added: “Training during international week is still full on.

“That’s the way the manager works, it’s his style and I’ve got no doubt he’ll work us throughout.

“There won’t be many days off, we’re a working team.

“When a result doesn’t go well, I like to go to the training pitch to get the weekend out my system.”

Asked if he has any special plans for a rare Saturday off, Tidser said: “A day off to recharge the batteries and spend some time with the family is great.

“It’s a time to spend a Saturday with my boy and do things I maybe wouldn’t usually be able to do.”
