MORTON defender Lewis Strapp admits he initially wasn’t sure about his loan deal at Elgin City — but he wants to knuckle down and make the most of his time at Borough Briggs.

Strapp moved to Jim Weir’s outfit towards the end of the transfer window and has admitted he was sceptical about heading to play his football elsewhere even at this early stage.

However, the 17-year-old left-back thought about the opportunity and decided that the game time he will get in League Two will stand him in good stead for his return to Morton at the end of the contract in early January.

And he has enjoyed every moment of his move so far.

He told the Tele: “I’m enjoying being out on loan at Elgin. I can’t complain, I’ve got a goal and an assist, two games and two wins. So I am enjoying it.

“I didn’t think I’d be enjoying it as much as I have been to be honest, meeting new boys and everything like that.

“But the boys have been different class and I really can’t
complain.

“When you’re first told that you’re going out on loan your initial reaction might naturally be a bit negative.

“But I spoke to my mum and thought about the first-team game time and that can only be better than not playing as often as I’d maybe like to here at Morton.

“It’s good to be out getting the game time and eventually I’ll be able to play bigger games for Morton when I’m back because the manager will have that trust in me.”

Strapp has received praise from Elgin team-mates for his early form since joining up with the Black and Whites and he believes the fact that Weir and Jim Duffy are in contact with
each other will also help his case when he returns.

He added: “It’s a big thing that the two managers are in constant contact with each other.

“But even without Jim Weir telling the gaffer, there’s other ways he would be able to find out.

“There’s Elgin TV, he’ll be able to watch highlights of the game and things like that.

“But I do think the two managers have spoken quite a bit because after my first game I was in training with Morton the next day and the gaffer said that he’d heard I had done well, so that was a big thing.

“Some of the boys in the team were saying ‘well done’ to me as well.”
