JIM Duffy insists Morton have to cut out the ‘silly mistakes’ from last weekend’s win over Dunfermline if they are to leave Dumfries with three points tomorrow afternoon.

Ton found themselves 2-0 down at half-time thanks to goals from Joe Cardle and Kallum Higginbotham last Saturday but managed to storm back to win 3-2 in the dying embers of a frantic afternoon.

Duffy has found comparisons between the Pars and tomorrow’s opponents Queen of the South — particularly in their strength in attack — and the manager hopes his side can keep things tight defensively in order to have the best chance of victory against stern opposition.

He told the Tele: “It’s going to be a very difficult match, as every game in this league is week in week out.

“When you look at results every week you can see how difficult it is for any team to get a good run of victories.

“We had a good result last week and, for the most part, a good performance.

“There was a 20-minute spell when Dunfermline had full control but we managed to regroup and we finished the game very strongly.

“We need to again be at maximum concentration down at Palmerston to have a chance at coming home with the points.

“Queen of the South are a bit similar to Dunfermline in many aspects.

“They’re very good at scoring goals, they’ve got a lot of quality in Derek Lyle, pictured, Stephen Dobbie, Chris Kane.

“These are good players who pose a good threat.

“We need to be aware of that and hopefully we can improve on what we done last week.

“If we can cut out the wee silly mistakes and hopefully continue progressing.

“We want to continue to build that consistency, which takes time.

“But from last week we’ve got something to try and build on and we will try to do that.”

Duffy admits that Ton’s week in training began in high spirits after their fightback against Allan Johnston’s men last weekend — but says they’ll have to be fully focused on their game to notch a second successive win.

He added: “The atmosphere in training was a little bit more relaxed earlier this week after a positive result.

“Of course it’s a bit more buoyant on the Monday but from then on, you have to focus on the next game because the weekend past is done and dusted.”
