DEREK Gaston is hopeful that Morton can put together a string of victories following their dramatic win last weekend — starting against Queen of the South this afternoon.

Ton travel to Dumfries in Championship action today off the back of a fantastic 3-2 turnaround against table-topping Dunfermline last weekend.

Gaston is under no illusions that Queens will pose the same sort of danger to his side again this weekend.

But the stopper is desperate to put together a winning run to kick-start Morton’s season — and he wants to use last week’s momentum to begin that run at Palmerston Park against Gary Naysmith’s outfit.

He told the Tele: “Queen of the South have started the season really well, they’re above us in the league already, so it’s going to be difficult. It will be pretty similar to the team they’ve had in the past year or two but you always know you’re in for a hard game when you go down to Dumfries.

“If you go and put a couple of wins together it puts you right up there and if you end up losing a few games the supporters can turn a wee bit.

“We lost to Livingston and it was important to correct that against Dunfermline.

“That win on Saturday hopefully can give us the momentum to put a few wins together, starting with this afternoon, and hopefully we can go and get the three points to try and build on going forward.”

Gaston reckons it was vital for Ton to get back to winning ways last weekend from a psychological standpoint.

Having already taken a look at upcoming fixtures, the keeper believes a win last week was important to gain a positive mindset going into what could have been even more difficult games against tough opposition.

He said: “We’re looking at our next three fixtures and we’re away to Queen of the South and Dundee United and then we’re at home to Falkirk. If you lose a few games in the build-up to those kinds of games you’re stuck thinking ‘there’s another hard game after another hard game’.

“Teams are going to be evenly matched this season as they have been in this league for a few years now. You can see that from the results at the weekend where there’s a lot of draws.

“I’m full of old football clichés but another one would be that any team can beat anyone else in this league.

“There are definitely no easy games, least of all Queen of the South at Palmerston Park.

“It’s going to be a difficult game.”
