QUEEN of the South striker Stephen Dobbie has told Morton that his side have match winners all over the pitch ahead of this afternoon’s clash in Dumfries.

But despite warning that Jim Duffy’s men are in for a tough test when they visit Palmerston today, the veteran striker has tipped Ton to be in the hunt for promotion when the season reaches the business end.

He said: “Morton had a great season last year and have started this season well again.

“I definitely think they’ll be up there around about the play-off spots again. We’ve started well too and it’ll be two teams full of confidence today trying to win the game.”

The Doonhamers currently occupy third place in the Ladbrokes Championship table having played five games and lost just once — a 2-1 defeat to title favourites Dundee United at Tannadice.

And veteran forward Dobbie is pleased that his side no longer have to rely on he and his strike partner’s goals alone — because everyone is chipping in with their fair share for the Dumfries outfit.

He told the Tele: “One thing we’ve done this season is we’ve added goals from other parts of the team.

“That takes a bit of the onus off just the strikers scoring the goals, when you know you’ve got defenders chipping in from corners and free-kicks, and Morton will have to be aware of that today.

“When we played Dumbarton and won 1-0, Callum Fordyce scored the winner from a corner so sometimes when it’s not happening for the strikers, it’s nice that you’ve got team-mates in other positions that can chip in.”
