MORTON matchwinner Andy Murdoch says he was delighted to double his meagre goalscoring tally from last season – and now wants to treble it against Dumbarton this Saturday.

Murdoch netted the only goal of the game against Brechin City at the weekend with a bobbled shot that squirmed through the arms of Brechin goalie Graeme Smith.

The midfielder was pleased with his crucial contribution to the win, saying: “I scored against St Mirren earlier this season so that was my second goal of the campaign.

“I’ve doubled my goal scoring tally from last season!

“Do I want to treble it this weekend? Definitely!

“I think my shot went just under the goalkeeper’s arm.

“It wasn’t my best strike ever but a goal is a goal. I suppose they all count the same.”

He added: “It was a tough match and we had to be really patient.

“It was always going to be some sort of scrappy goal that got us the win but it got us there in the end.

“Brechin were playing with five at the back and were very difficult to break down.

“When you have as much possession as we did, you don’t want to start forcing things.

“We had to keep playing to create space and try and make something happen, and we eventually got our reward.”
