JIM Duffy says he is satisfied with Morton’s Championship campaign so far — but believes his team need to be more consistent.

Ton currently sit sixth in the table after their first 10 fixtures with 15 points from a possible 30 and Duffy says he was pleased with his team’s opening quarter.

But the Ton boss has also demanded a more consistent level of performance from his troops who he admits have played better when games have become more open.

He told the Tele: “It’s been a decent first quarter of the season we’ve had.

“It has been patchy because we’ve had some games where we’ve played very well and others where we haven’t done quite as well.

“That’s the nature of football and also where we are because we’re not expecting everything to be perfect.

“The games we seem to have played well in have been when teams have come at us and the games have became more open.

“That’s helped us find a bit more space and be more free-flowing.

“But we’ve struggled with patience and composure in other games where teams have sat behind the ball against us.”

With five teams sitting ahead of Morton in the table, Duffy insists the majority of the clubs in front deserve to be where they are after 10 games.

He praised the season’s ‘surprise package’ Livingston who have been punching well above their weight since getting promoted last term.

However, he believes when his troops are at the top of their game they can match their Championship rivals — including derby opponents St Mirren who Morton face on Saturday.

He added: “The teams ahead of us at this moment in time I think deserve to be ahead of us.

Dundee United would always expect to be up there, Livingston are the surprise package obviously but they’ve been outstanding.

“Then Dunfermline and St Mirren, who have been very consistent and scored goals.

“That’s fair enough. From our point of view we haven’t been consistently at our best, but in certain games we’ve done very well.

“I think it has shown that if we can get everyone firing on all cylinders then we can match most teams if not everyone in this division.

“There’s things to learn and improve on and hopefully that first series of games can give us the information we need going forward.”
