ANDY Murdoch says his goal against St Mirren was one of his best ever — but laughed at the suggestion he does it every day in training.

Murdoch netted against the Buddies with a gem of a strike that has since been nominated for SPFL Goal of the Month for October.

The goal came at the perfect time, just three minutes after Saints had opened the scoring with a controversial penalty.

The midfielder was praised in the aftermath of the 2-2 draw by Gary Harkins and Scott Tiffoney.

Harkins said he could hear Andy Gray commentary in his head as Murdoch went for goal, with Tiffoney insisting his team-mate constantly comes up with similar crackers at training.

But modest Murdoch played down the banter, telling the Tele: “It was definitely one of the best goals I’ve scored. Especially with it being a derby, it was a good goal.

“Everything rolled into one, really, and as soon as I hit it I knew it was in.
“I pretty much just took the momentum into the celebrations. Jeebsy [Harkins] says the Andy Gray thing every time I kick the ball in training!”

“Do I hit the ball and score goals like that all the time in training though? Maybe not all the time!

“Hopefully I can score against other teams now. Queen of the South would definitely be the time to do it this weekend.”

Morton were satisfied with the point against St Mirren after the hosts had won every league game this season at home before Murdoch and co. came to town.

Murdoch added: “It was a good performance, especially away from home, and it was a good point from our point of view.

“St Mirren had been doing so well and I thought we did well to come back twice.

“They’ve won most of their league home games so it was good for us. Once we lost the penalty we were back in it pretty quickly and even when they scored the second we still felt we could get something.”

Queen of the South visit Cappielow this weekend and Murdoch expects a tough match.

He said: “They’ve won their last couple, so they’ll be feeling good about themselves. It’s always hard playing against them because they’re usually round about us in the league in the same position.

“So it would definitely be a good three points to get if we can do that.

“If we can replicate the tempo that we played with last weekend then hopefully we can get it done.”
