GARY Oliver netted the opening goal of last weekend’s 4-1 win over Brechin City at Cappielow and insists he was happy to be the man to set the Ton on their way to such an emphatic win.
Oliver scored after just four minutes following a Ross Forbes delivery and he reckons the early goal settled the nerves and allowed Morton to play with freedom and confidence for the rest of the match.
He told the Tele: “It’s always good to score and as it was in the fourth minute, so it gives you a bit of confidence for the whole game.
“The early goal settled us down a wee bit because Brechin can sit back and defend, like the last time at their park. It gave us a bit of breathing space and allowed us to enjoy the game a bit more.
“It was a great result for us considering just how difficult Brechin can be to break down and, for me personally, it’s a second goal in three weeks.
"I’m always happy to score and to do so to set the boys on the way to a win was even better.”
