MORTON’S Robert Thomson is at the centre of a fresh injury scare.

The 24-year-old, who played the full 90 minutes during Saturday’s slender 1-0 defeat at home to Falkirk, reported back to training yesterday with a recurrence of his groin problem.

It’s not the first time this season that the problem has troubled the talented ace and now manager Jim Duffy says the injury will need to be managed carefully.

Duffy said: “Robert Thomson missed the game against Brechin with a problem in the groin area and it flared up again after Saturday. It’s something we’ve had to manage over the last umpteen weeks, really.

“Robert’s an important player and he can play with it but it does need to be looked at somewhere along the line.

“At the moment he’s battling through it.

“At the moment he’s a bit sore, he’s a bit tender. Other than that, everyone else who played in the game came through it okay.”

One player on the comeback trail is Jai Quitongo, who picked up an injury during the 1-1 draw with Brechin City at Glebe Park.

Quitongo missed six months of last season due to serious cruciate ligament damage. Boss Duffy reckons the 20-year-old will need time to harness some sharpness before he’s pitched straight back into action.

Duffy said: “All we can say is that we don’t think it’s anything significant with Jai. It was a kind of twist and he’s jarred his knee but it does not seem too significant.

“I don’t think it will be too long before he’s back. It could be this week but until such time as he’s had a week of competitive training under his belt, we’ll have a clearer indication.

“He’s running and doing ball work but the first thing you have to be is be competitive.”
