MORTON right-back Michael Doyle believes the point they earned at Dunfermline on Saturday was far more valuable for them than their opponents in the race for the play-offs.

The two sides played out a goalless draw at East End Park and the result keeps Ton four points ahead of the Pars, who are one place behind them in fifth with a game in hand.

And the 26-year-old says it’s important for his side to pick up as many points as possible in the run-in, as they look to secure a play-off spot.

He said: “It was a better point for us than it was for them, because it was a home game for them. You’re expecting your team to win at home.

“That’s how we did well last year, winning our home games.

“It’s important for us to try and get as many points as possible and try and keep out of reach of them.”

Doyle went straight back into the starting line-up in place of Mark Russell on Saturday, after missing the 1-1 draw away to Livingston last week due to suspension.

He added: “Mark Russell did brilliantly at right-back against Livingston.

“As a player you want to play as many games as you can, I’m glad the manager’s put me back in.

“But I wouldn’t have been knocking on his door thinking to myself why am I not playing because after Tuesday if he had gone with the same back four I’d have totally understood why because I thought they did really well.”
