CENTRE-BACK Luca Gasparotto believes every game is now must-win for Morton.

The 3-2 defeat to Livingston means the Cappielow side’s fate is no longer in their own hands, with Dunfermline and Dundee United now in command in the race for the play-offs.

With four games left, the Canadian under-23 international says they must win them all if they are to have hopes of finishing in the top four, starting with their game against Dumbarton tonight at Cappielow.

He told the Tele: “It’s going to be between us and Dundee United I think for fourth place.

“Dumbarton did us a favour on Saturday but every game is a must-win for us and that starts today.

“No disrespect to Dumbarton as they’re a tough team to play against but we’re going to be expected to beat them, where we are in the standings and the recent success we’ve had against them, we’ll be expected to win.

“We’ve got to go into the run-in with a mindset that we have to win every game from now until the end of the season.”

Saturday saw the 23-year-old’s first start for over a month, after coming off injured against Dumbarton back in February.

He had been a regular in the starting line-up for Morton since making his move from Falkirk in the January transfer window.

Gasparotto played a large part in both of the visitors’ goals at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

And while the defender was happy to get back on the park and be a key player for the Ton, he was disappointed with the manner his side conceded three set-piece goals against Livi.

He added: “It’s mixed feelings for myself personally after being out for a couple of months, it was good to get back in the team.

“I felt my performance was okay, from the set pieces I helped set up the two goals, but at the end of the day to lose it from the three set pieces is disappointing and frustrating.

“It’s something we work on, and you could see from the height and presence in the team, it’s disappointing to lose the way we did.

“But there are still four games to go, we’ve got a must win game tonight. We need to dust ourselves down and go again.”

Manager Jim Duffy was pleased with the centre-back’s return to the team, but shared his frustration at the players not being able to deal with the set-piece threat Livingston posed on Saturday.

He said: “Luca was exceptional for us, he set up both goals, I thought he had a terrific match for us in general.

“But obviously I had him, Tam [O’Ware] and Ricki [Lamie], we had enough in Thommo [Robert Thomson], we had plenty of height and presence.

“You cannot guarantee anything in this league, we know Dumbarton will be really buoyant after that win, it will give them a huge lift but we have our own job to do and we need to try and get all three points.”
