RICKI Lamie says he has still to decide if his future lies at Morton next season.

The centre-back’s contract is up in the summer and Lamie today revealed he hopes to come to a decision in the next couple of weeks.

Ton fans will be hoping the former Airdrie defender signs on after being a key part of the team under former manager Jim Duffy.

But Lamie, who played in 36 games for Morton last season, says he’ll take some time to decide if he wants to remain in Greenock or move on in the close season.

He told the Tele: “I’ll sort my own future out over the next week or two and we’ll see what’s happening.

“It’s the same with the rest of the boys, we’ll see what’s happening.”

One player who won’t be at Morton next season is Lamie’s centre-back partner Thomas O’Ware after a sevenyear spell in Greenock.

And 24-year-old Lamie was gutted to see his fellow defender go on a disappointing note, with Ton failing to reach the play-offs and manager Duffy leaving the Greenock outfit after four seasons in charge.

Lamie added: “Myself and Tam have been together for the past four seasons.

“It’s a shame that the first nucleus of players that came in with the gaffer four years ago has crumbled now with guys going their own way.

“It’s a sad time for that, and it would have been nice to go out on a high, but sadly that wasn’t the case.”

Lamie admitted Morton simply weren’t good enough during the run-in.

The Ton’s poor form at the end of the season, where they picked up only two wins in their last 11 league games, saw the Cappielow side slide down the table, with the two victories coming against the part-time teams Dumbarton and Brechin City.

They eventually finished seventh after Queen of the South overtook them on the last day with victory over Brechin City, while the Ton ended their campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Inverness Caley Thistle.

After being as high as third with just six games to go it meant the campaign ended on a disappointing note.

And the centre-back was blunt in his assessment of why the Ton’s recent form had dropped.

He said: “It’s been a massively disappointing couple of weeks.

“We were trying to make sure we kept going to the end, but a couple more injuries set us further back on Saturday, but we can’t use that as an excuse.

“The performances haven’t been good enough, and it’s as simple as that.

“The easy thing to say is we knew we weren’t going to make the play-offs, but that was only last weekend.

“We can’t put that down to the results beforehand, as we knew we were still in with a fighting chance.

“If myself or anybody else could put a finger on it, it would be solved. In terms of desire that wee bit of fight has fallen out of us, whether that’s tiredness or not I don’t know.

“But I don’t want to be making excuses that everybody has heard before, I think we’ve just simply not been good enough.”
