MORTON goalkeeper Derek Gaston is to have further scans on his wrist injury.

Gaston was forced off in Ton’s 3-2 win against Dumbarton last month, with Conor Brennan replacing him at half-time.

He has had several X-rays since then, but it is still uncertain whether there is a minor break in his hand or not.

He told the Tele: “I went back again last Wednesday to have an X-ray and it looked fine, but on one of the scans they weren’t sure if it was broken.

“There might be a line in the bone, so they were going to refer me for an MRI over the next few weeks to double check to make sure it is clear and to give it the best chance to heal.”

The 31-year-old made 40 appearances for Morton this season, and completed his landmark 200th appearance against Brechin City in March.

And the former Albion Rovers number one was pleased to get some more consistency into his game this year.

He added: “I managed to stay injury-free until the last few games of the season, so I’m quite happy with that and getting 40 games under my belt.

“I finished the previous season quite poorly in terms of my own performances. It was good to get back and starting as number one this season and I played a bit better this season, so there were some positives to take.

“Nowadays there aren’t many players who hang around long enough to pick up that many appearances.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to be picked 200 times, the management stuck by me and the goalkeeping coach Davie Wylie has stuck by me.”
