No news yet on Austrian trip

Morton players arrived back at the training ground at Quarrier"s Village yesterday for their first pre-season training session and, in manager Davie Irons" words, they were in good spirits.

He said: 'Everything went fine. They are in good condition and in good spirits, so we hope that continues.' The players had sessions in both morning and afternoon, their first chance to get back in the swing of things.

Meanwhile they are still waiting to see whether or not they are off to Austria next week for a break which will include pre-season training.

The trip was to be organised by Cappielow director Alistair Donald but there is as yet no definite decision as to whether or not it is going ahead.

Club chairman Douglas Rae said: 'It has been arranged by Alistair Donald outwith the club"s control and it would appear there are still some aspects to be decided. It was Alistair"s way of giving the players a treat as well as getting some training done.'

Manager Irons was also able to refute speculation of a Morton interest in former Airdrie striker Simon Lynch and youngster John Paul Kissock, recently released by Everton.

'I"m not in a position to bring in anyone at the moment,' he explained. On Kissock, Irons said: 'Obvously I"ve worked with him before [at Gretna], but I don"t think he"s got any plans to come north again. I"ve no plan to bring him in.'

Meanwhile Morton are to let children under-12 in to Cappielow for nothing next season.

Club chairman Douglas Rae said: 'It means an adult can take a child of that age to the game and go in through the normal gate instead of the parent and child gate, and the child gets in for nothing.

'Hopefully we will be encouraging the next generation to become supporters.'
