RECOVERING David MacGregor says he is desperate to get over his injury so he can win a new contract at Cappielow.
The 28-year-old has responded well to treatment on a long-term groin injury and is praying his last operation goes well so he can stay at the club.
He told the Telegraph: 'It"s been going quite well so far as I"ve just started building up my training again.
'I"ve been doing a lot of running during the past couple of weeks and I"ve started working with the rest of squad recently - so I"m feeling good.
'My contract is up for renewal on 15 August so my target is to get fit for then and prove to the gaffer that I"m worth keeping on.
'I"ve been at the club since 1998 and love it here so I hope my loyalty is rewarded.'
The defender had a torrid time with injury last term and has not played since 30 December, 2008.
However, Morton enjoyed their best spell of the season with him in the side and he believes his return will be a big boost.
He said: 'We"ve got lots of good defenders but, hopefully, I can get challenging again for a starting place and help the team get off to a great start and have a good run this season.'
MacGregor admitted he was gutted to have missed out on travelling to Ton"s Austrian training camp, along with fellow stoppers Dominic Shimmin and Ryan Harding.
Davie Irons" men have been put through a tough week of training and matches but MacGregor says he"s only focusing on his own fitness regime for now.
He said: 'It"s disappointing and frustrating not to have flown out with the lads for pre-season as I like to feel part of the team.
'But I"ve just got to focus on my own personal training camp here and make sure that I come through my next groin operation without any problems and get fit.
'My next target after that is to obviously get a new contract, push my way back into the starting 11 and then help the lads aim for the title.
'Everyone is talking about Dundee at the moment - but I think we"ve got what it takes to give them a run for their money.'
