Ton's wait on Jonatan

MORTON boss James Grady is waiting for an answer today from ex-Rangers striker Jonatan Johansson to an offer made to bring him to Cappielow.

Grady said: "I am hoping to hear from him. He's been offered a contract in Germany but we're still in the market for him. But I've told him we need to know soon."

"We're looking at another striker and have other irons in the fire if we can get one or two [players] out."

This is the last few days of the transfer window when the Morton manager expects there to be a lot of activity among the clubs.

He said: "A lot of clubs are leaving it to the last minute. This is the time for the real nitty-gritty."

Grady accepts that he is overloaded with midfield players. He has already said that Stevie Masterton is available on loan, but on that subject he commented: "There hasn't been any real interest. Everyone is looking for strikers, and so are we."

The Morton boss was meanwhile pleased to have picked up three points on the road at Kirkcaldy on Saturday against Raith Rovers.

"It was probably the worst we've played for a long time," he said. "We had to dig out a result.

"But it was the worst I've seen Stark's Park for as long as I can remember. John McGlynn [the Raith boss] said they have some sort of drainage problem.

"That's why we took young Michael Tidser off. It wasn't his type of pitch. We put on big Erik [Paartalu].

"The boys stood up well and we rode our luck at times.

"We had two chances and we took them. But it lets the boys know that they can scrap if they need to."

There are no substantial injury worries. Goalkeeper Kevin Cuthbert dislocated a pinkie in training which was successfully put back into place, while defender Dom Shimmin has a slight groin strain which is not expected to cause any undue trouble. He should be in his place on Saturday against Airdrie.
