Fighting talk: Stevie Masterton hopes that hard work can get him back in the Morton first team picture.
MORTON midfield man Stevie Masterton is determined to fight for his place in the team after being told he could find another club.
With the Cappielow club top heavy with midfield men, manager James Grady wants to try and offload one or two in order to strengthen other areas.
Masterton, who had been injured, was told he could find another club during the transfer window, but nothing materialised and he remains with the Greenock outfit.
He said: "There were enquiries, but nothing that was suitable. The manager told me to look for a club after I'd come back from injury as I wasn't fit enough at that time to start playing again.
"Since then, though, he has said I have done excellently in training. I think I'm good enough to get back in the team.
"I was more or less told that there was no future for me at the club but I'm hoping to get back."
The freeze wiped out so much football that Masterton believes, if anything, it has been in his favour.
"It's probably been a positive for me. I wasn't going to be playing anyway. I've just got to get my head down and work hard to try and get my chance.
"If I can't force my way back into the team in the next four or five weeks then I will probably have to start looking for another club. I don't want to be sitting on the sidelines and would rather be playing football."
