POINTS QUEST: Allan Jenkins hopes to help Ton on a run to take them clear of the relegation area.

MORTON midfielder Allan Jenkins is hoping that Saturday's match away to Queen of the South can be the start of a run of games after a stop-start period due to the weather and Scottish Cup.

The Cappielow men missed out on Saturday due to the cup, having failed also to persuade Airdrie to play a postponed league game.

Yesterday Morton met St Johnstone in a closed-door game at Cappielow and Jenkins said: "It went well. We lost one-nil but results don't really matter in these games. It was important to get a run-out for everyone and we came through unscathed.

"The games will come thick and fast now. I think we'll be playing Saturday, Tuesday for most of February and March."

Jenkins only just returned to action, after a lengthy injury, against Celtic in the Scottish Cup 1-0 defeat at Cappielow on 19 January. He then took part in the win over Raith at Stark's Park since when Morton have not played. "It was a good result against Raith, even if the performance wasn't great," he said.

"But the boys want to kick on from there and at the moment results are the most important thing.

"It's been disappointing for the fans. It's the same as last season with us playing at the wrong end of the league.

"Hopefully we can go on a wee run and pull away from Airdrie and Ayr and maybe get past Raith.

"To be honest, I think that's the best we can hope for. We need to make sure we are still in this division and then rebuild for next season.

"Palmerston has been a happy hunting ground for us. We've got a great record down there and the boys like going there because of that.

"They're higher up the league than us but we've seen before that that doesn't count."

Although the transfer window has now closed, Morton remain on the lookout for an additional striker and Jenkins said: "It's common knowledge that we've got the boy Simmonds training with us.

"What happens now is obviously up to the manager."
