Captain Stu turns coach

STUART McCaffrey has taken the first steps towards getting his coaching badges – and the defender has been able to get some practice in at Morton.

The Ton captain, pictured, is awaiting the assessment for his adult B licence and has begun a youth coaching course with Cappielow team-mate Darren Young.

And while McCaffrey is enjoying the experience now, he admits that at first it was quite intimidating to get up and take control of training sessions.

He said: "The first day of the course there were a bunch of professional guys from Rangers and Celtic there. It really takes you out of your comfort zone.

"The biggest thing is hearing yourself talk out loud and getting your point across, that can be quite nerve-wracking but I quite enjoy it now.

"I've been quite lucky as the manager let me take the team in our last bounce game against Hamilton and that really helps your development.

"With coaching you have to do it as much as you can and I've been coaching a local team near where I stay and hopefully I'll learn a lot by doing that with them."
