FORMER Kilmarnock boss Kenny Shiels will be officially unveiled as the new Morton manager on Monday.

The 57-year-old will take over after the club decided he was the man to move them forward after a disastrous start to the season under Allan Moore, who was sacked last month.

Since then, Ton development squad chief David Hopkin has been looking after the first team as caretaker manager, and he was in the running for the job alongside a number of other candidates.

But Shiels, who spent two years in charge at Rugby Park and won the League Cup, today emerged as the man club chairman Douglas Rae wants in charge.

He was introduced to the players at training at Parklea this morning.

Interim boss Hopkin is expected to remain in the dugout for tomorrow's vital clash against Alloa at Recreation Park.

Earlier this week Shiels told the Tele he would be keen on moving to Morton and praised Hopkin.

He said: "It’s certainly a job that would interest someone like myself who is keen to get back into football.

"Morton are a club with great potential and have a lot of good people working there.

"They’re a good club and they’ve got a lot of good coaches down there.

“David Hopkin is a good lad who is working very well in his job.

“He’s got a good philosophy about the game."
